Liver pills no more

Separation from my last job meant switching insurance over to my wife's plan (which is cheaper than picking up the cost myself via COBRA), which in turn meant switching to a new physician as the one I'd been seeing for years was not supported under the new plan, a rather more "mainstream" practitioner my wife has been going to, which in turn meant that I expect not to be taking these liver cleansing supplements any longer:
Liv.52 which contains
  • Capers (Cappiris spinosa root)
  • Wild Chicory (Cichorium intybus seed)
  • Black Nightshade (Solanum nigrum whole)
  • Arjuna (Terminalia arjuna bark)
  • Yarrow (Achillea Millefolium aerial parts)
  • Negro Coffee (Cassia occidentalis seed)
  • Tamarisk (Tamarix gallica whole)

Liver Balance Plus which is a Chinese formulation containing
  • Bupleurum Root
  • Dong Quai Root
  • Tribulus Terrestris
  • Dandelion Root
  • Atractylodes Root
  • Peony Root
  • Ginger Root
  • Poria Cocos
  • Licorice Root
  • Chinese Mint Leaf
  • Hyssop Leaf
  • Chamaelirum Luteum
  • Cayenne Fruit

Don't inquire how I know this, but I am quite certain that these things do cause physiological effects on my digestive system beyond placebos. Whether they have anything to do with cholesterol-lowering, I don't have the expertise to judge.
