Great American Pastime
My Knights of Columbus
Council went off to see some professional baseball yesterday,
featuring neither the Yankess nor the Mets. We spent an afternoon
watching the New Jersey Jackals
have the tar beat out of them by the Brockton (MA) Rox, 13-2 The visitors put
together two five-run innings to put them away. The fans engaged in
some old-fashioned umpire-baiting after a close call at the plate
around the seventh inning or so, not that it really tipped the balance
against the home team or anything. Still, the seven-year-old and under set
had not had their spirits dampened, as we were all treated on the bone-jarring
bus ride back to Cresskill to a dozen or so renditions of Take Me Out
to the Ballgame.
